Homeless women and children are the fastest growing population in our society. We serve a population in which 92% have experienced severe losses, abuse and violence in their lives, along with poverty. Not since the Great Depression have so many been without homes. Approximately 1.35 million children will be homeless this year, more than 200,000 of them will have no permanent place to live. Homeless families are headed by 84% women. These are the women we serve.
By investing in their futures with life changing solutions Heart to Heart Family Services is helping women become self-sufficient able to live in the community independently with their children.
The typical mother is in her late twenties with two children, 43% of the children are under the age of six. Half of the mothers do not have a high school diploma and about one-third have part-time jobs, which provide the bare minimum food, clothing or shelter for them and their children. With education and job training the families’ transition from poverty into self-sufficiency and independence.
